POSITION:   

Coordinator-Texas Outdoor Education Center                    

POSITION CLASSIFICATION:   

Non-Exempt/Full-Time

Vice President/Outdoor

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:     

  • Ability to provide supervision and guidance to a team of Outdoor program specialists
  • A genuine interest in working with children in an outdoor environment
  • Bachelor's degree in education, forestry, outdoor recreation, wildlife management, environmental science, or related field
  • Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience and self-control
  • Good character, integrity, and adaptability

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

Current CPR and First Aid certifications

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Recruit and provide supervision for Outdoor program specialists.
  • Serve as program liaison and host for all school visits to the Texas Outdoor Education Center.
  • Lead the development and implementation of a variety of age and ability appropriate activities in outdoor study areas, such as: fossils, archery, orienteering, birds, leadership, animal habitats, trees, grasses, outdoor cooking, insects, and additional studies as developed.
  • nature/environmental program area.
  • Manage and maintain the Outdoor program equipment including storage areas, facility areas, books, brochures, materials and supplies.
  • Develop and monitor schedules and records for all program components, including but not limited to staffing, participant, and activity schedules.
  • Participate as host and facilitator for Retreats and Rentals events as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL ASPECTS OF POSITION:

  • Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid and other hazards.
  • Must be able to assist participants in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of participants.
  • Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to participants.
  • Ability to live in camp setting and work irregular hours while delivering programs.
  • Ability to work in various environmental conditions.
  • Ability to observe behavior, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.

RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Reports directly to Vice President: Outdoor Division.
  • Works closely with all Camp El Tesoro staff.

ACCOUNTABILTY:

  • This position is responsible for the quality and year-end financial results of the following program:

Texas Outdoor Education Center

Key Area of Responsibility                                                                               

  • Implement, support and analyze council and program specific evaluations
  • Communicate as point person for all bookings
  • Ensure staff and participants know and follow safety procedures
  • Lead and participate in staff trainings for Outdoor programs.
  • Procure inventory and restock Outdoor supplies and equipment in a timely manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Outdoor Events

  • Participate as a member of the Outdoor staff to supervise and deliver evening programs, special events, overnights, and other Outdoor activities and functions.

  • Participate in the preparation and take primary responsibility in administration of Texas Outdoor Education Center budget.

  • Maintain communication with VP-Outdoor regarding programs.
  • Model and build team respect among all Outdoor staff.
  • Provide data and reports for programs.
  • Serve as council representative.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of Council work plans and goals by providing advice and information concerning key areas of responsibility.
  • Other duties as assigned.
