Promoting Professional Development and Best Practice in EE
Director of Cities and Nature
Website:Children and Nature Network
The Children & Nature Network (C&NN) is seeking an experienced professional to join a dynamic team to support its Cities Connecting Children to Nature (CCCN) initiative. This national initiative is a partnership with the National League of Cities Institute for Youth, Education, and Families (YEF Institute) where the two partner organizations engage city leaders in planning and implementing equitable and abundant connection to nature for children. The C&NN and YEF Institute team is a collaboration that supports cities through a variety of means, including developing tools and resources, creating publications and webinars, convening city teams on phone and video conferences and convening city leaders for peer learning.
The Director of Cities and Nature will work closely with C&NN staff and YEF Institute partners to manage these aspects of the project and will be responsible for fueling a peer learning network among city government professionals and their community partners with the goal of helping them achieve more access and connection to nature for low-income children and families.
The ideal candidate has experience creating compelling communications for social change, managing multifaceted projects, and stewarding relationships among cross-sector partners. C&NN desires expertise in any of the following fields: child development, public health, environmental literacy, sustainable and resilient cities, racial equity, outdoor engagement or parks and recreation.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor’s or graduate degree in related field.
• Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in project management and professional communications and content delivery in related fields or a combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities for the CCCN initiative.
C&NN prefers candidates who have experience in one or more of the following areas: advancing initiatives that connect children and families to nature and green spaces; addressing systems-level approaches to social issues; and connecting nature or green space to public health.
LOCATION AND TRAVEL
This is a full-time employee position at the Children & Nature Network. The Children & Nature Network is a virtual organization with no central office or headquarters, and the geographic location of the candidate is limited to the U.S. Given the nature of this initiative and the direct collaboration with the National League of Cities, it is expected that the candidate will travel on occasion to the NLC office in Washington, D.C. and to scheduled site visits and convenings to provide technical assistance to the cities in the initiative.
The position reports directly to the C&NN Vice President of Strategic Initiatives and will collaborate closely with C&NN initiative and communications staff, and the staff at the YEF Institute.
