Job Description:

Position Responsibilities

* Provide organizational direction, vision, educational philosophy and support to Irvine’s ECEE programs and staff with emphasis on a nature-based emergent curriculum
 * Direct the operation of The Nature Preschool, including managing staff, setting policies/procedures, communicating with parents, overseeing school promotion, managing the budget, ensuring sufficient enrollment, assessing student performance and satisfying NAEYC accreditation and MSDE licensing requirements
* Work with other Irvine Directors to promote healthy communication between Irvine’s departments
  * Share best practices of ECEE through speaking engagements, conferences and professional development courses for educators, parents and ECEE practitioners
* Oversee the implementation of evolving educational components of the Outdoor Classroom
* Establish and maintain partnerships within the local and national ECEE community
* Coordinate Irvine’s annual Nature Preschool Conference
* Supply documentation for grant reporting


* Minimum 5 years of experience as an outstanding educator developing and leading programs for young children, especially in alternative or outdoor settings
* Proven leadership, supervisory and management skills; ability to multi-task
* Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
* Solid understanding of appropriate practice as it pertains to ECEE, nature pedagogy, and emergent curriculum
* Bachelor’s degree in early childhood, elementary or outdoor education; master’s degree preferred
* Certification and credentials pursuant to MSDE preschool licensing; thorough knowledge of NAEYC guidelines
* Current First Aid and CPR training
* Proficient in computer programs such as Microsoft Office, Outlook and Excel
* Able to lead hikes up to two miles as required when teaching or observing
