Education and Outreach Coordinator

Programs developed by the EOS may include but are not limited to general and subject-specific classes, tours, outdoor activities, come-and-go public events, and craft events. As an educator, the EOS will apply and reinforce the Kansas’s curriculum standards for school groups when possible. This position will be responsible for developing supplemental educational resources including educational games and crafts, as well as materials and equipment for exploration in the field. They will also maintaining several live animal exhibits for visitors as well as for use in programing. As outreach coordinator, the EOS will participate in events in the community that strength community connections while also promoting Baker University Wetlands’ activities and events. They will also contribute to social media posts and newsletters and will assist with land management activities as needed. This is a full-time, 40hr/week position that requires some evening and weekend hours. The Education and Outreach Specialist reports to the Director of the Baker University Wetlands.
Applicants should have excellent presentation, communication, time management, and computer skills. In addition, applicants should understand sound educational theory and state curriculum standards, have curriculum development experience (classroom experience preferred), and the ability to work with individuals with various backgrounds, especially children. Applicants should have a working knowledge of common wetland plants and vertebrates of Eastern Kansas and should be comfortable handling wildlife (in particular amphibians and reptiles). Applicants must have up to date CPR and first aid training. Position requires some evening and weekend work. Bachelor’s degree required.
