Job Description:

Who are we?  We are Conservation Nation, and we are just getting started.

Conservation Nation is almost one year into our mission to preserve the planet by cultivating an inclusive and resilient wildlife conservation movement.  We break barriers to accelerate growth of a strong community of wildlife champions solving urgent biodiversity challenges together.  We fund conservationists from marginalized communities, inspire the next generation to join the movement, and foster a global conservation community.  Our public launch was September 30, 2021, so we are just getting started!

What will you do?

While reporting to the CEO, the Education Director will provide the strategic vision for and will lead the creation and implementation of conservation education programs, all through the lens of advancing our mission of inclusion in the field of conservation.  We expect you to champion all education programs by partnering with other team members and leading a small, but mighty, team. We expect you to further define the responsibilities, but this list is a start:

  • Articulate a vision for the future of Conservation Nation Education programs that includes current state, as well as national expansion
  • Develop, plan, manage, and evaluate current programs, including Conservation Nation Academy, NxtGen Cohort, and the Youth Advisory Council
  • Synthesize data and communicate progress against goals to stakeholders, including the Board of Directors and Advisory Committee
  • Hire, train, and lead an exceptional team of full-time, part-time, and contract staff to position our programs for success
  • Identify, develop, and maintain community relationships with schools and youth organizations
  • Collaborate with team members to advertise and promote Conservation Nation educational programs, while serving as a subject matter expert for wildlife conservation
  • Provide on-site support, as needed, including substituting, coaching, evaluation, data collection, troubleshooting, etc…
  • Work with the team to Identify, manage, and apply for education grants
  • Maintain comprehensive and current knowledge of educational and safety best practices, applicable laws/regulations, as well as, new techniques, practices, and trends

What else could we possibly need from you?

  • You possess an educational background and experience that supports your work, most likely a Bachelor or Master degree.  An ideal candidate would have 5 to 7 years of experience leading youth education programs, managing national-scale projects, teaching in a public-school setting, and thriving in nature.
  • Your work history has developed your confidence to successfully navigate interactions with senior leaders in the private and public sector
  • You are a leader with the ability to take direction, be flexible but firm, and have patience and ability to work on several projects at once
  • You thrive in both self-directed and team-focused work with the ability to lead colleagues and influence leaders.  People love to work with you.
  • You have proven ability, willingness, and desire to represent Conservation Nation and share our mission with a variety of audiences.
  • You are a strong communicator with effective written and verbal English skills, other languages are a plus
  • Technology is your friend, and you are fluent in Microsoft 365 applications and comfortable learning new platforms.  Salesforce experience is a plus.

You have flexibility to transport yourself around the DC metro area, as needed, although most work will happen in a home office, office, or school-like environment.  Future expansion may require overnight travel to other locations.

You have ambition to grow and expand your scope with the role.

A sense of humor is strongly preferred.

  • Our budget for this role is targeted at $85,000 per year.
  • We work from home.  We have virtual team meetings twice a week to stay connected.  When logistically possible, we meet in person once per month because we like seeing each other in person.
