Job Description:

The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government (LFUCG) Department of Environmental Quality and Public Works (EQPW) is seeking two AmeriCorps members to serve on their K-12 environmental education program. Two AmeriCorps positions will teach K-12 students throughout Lexington-Fayette County, based on units of study focusing on waste management, water quality (stormwater and sanitary sewers) and transportation. Lessons will take place in classrooms and during after school programs. Applicants will also help lead field trips related to the units of study and will assist with community outreach at events. Compensation Information:

Compensation and Benefits: Each of the two members will serve 1700 hours beginning on September 1, 2021, and serving through August 31, 2022. Each member will receive a year’s total living stipend of $15,100 plus an additional $7,000 stipend totaling to $22,100, divided up and provided on a bi-weekly basis throughout the service year. Members should expect to work an average of 35 hours each week, with some weeks requiring additional hours and other weeks requiring less. In addition, each member will have the opportunity to receive certification as a Professional Certified Environmental Educator through Kentucky's state agency for environmental education. Additional benefits include healthcare, travel reimbursements, access to the Mental Health Member Assistance program, child care assistance (if eligible), access to the Employers of National Service database, and a tuition stipend (provided to AmeriCorps service members). In order to receive the tuition stipend, members must fulfill their service hour requirement by August 31, 2022.
