The Buffalo Audubon Society seeks candidates for the position of Executive Director. The selected person will lead the activities of our not-for-profit, 501 (c)(3) organization and take us beyond where we are in the most excellent and positive way possible.
What We Look For
We aim to hire an inspiring, creative, vision-filled individual to lead our members, volunteers, donors, and the public at large in advancing our activities. We expect outstanding speaking and writing skills, as well as a solid handle on not-for-profit financial practices and personnel management. Excellent grantsmanship and donor & volunteer relations skills are highly desired. We welcome experience and knowledge in the areas of birding/ornithology, nature education, and the environmental and conservation sciences.
Who We Are
The Buffalo Audubon Society was founded in 1909 and its mission is to promote the appreciation and enjoyment of the natural world through education and stewardship. We have a committed board of approximately 15 directors; a seven-person staff consisting of an ED, an education director, two naturalists, an office manager, a groundskeeper, and a gifts shop/web manager; and a strong corps of volunteers. Our three core activity areas include providing educational and experiential opportunities for the enjoyment of the natural world with an emphasis on birds, promoting activities that protect and advance birds and bird habitat in our Western New York service area, and properly maintaining our nature center and seven nature preserves. Though we are an independent organization, we embrace the bird-friendly conservation goals of the Audubon movement and are affiliated with the National Audubon Society, New York Audubon, and the Audubon Council of New York.
