This position is supervised by the District Forester on the Golden district, and the primary duty of this position is to serve as a forester supporting activities associated with the Upper South Platte Project (USPP). Specifically, this position will support USPP projects involving forest management, wildfire fuels reduction, public outreach, forest health, Community Wildfire Protection Plans, and Firewise Communities. This position will also assist with other district programs such as: Forest Agriculture and Forest Stewardship; wildfire mitigation; grant program administration; state trust lands forest management; urban and community forestry; insect and disease detection; and landowner and cooperator forestry assistance.
Required Job Qualifications:
- A Society of American Foresters (SAF) accredited Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program option.
- A Bachelor’s degree (or greater) in Forestry or a Natural Resources program option, and
- Six months of professional forestry experience, with specific experience in Dendrology, Forest Ecology, Forest Management, Forest Measurements, Silviculture, Urban and Community Forestry, Vegetation Dynamics, or Wildfire Management/Fuels Mitigation.
- Ability to safely operate 4-wheel drive vehicles, forestry machinery and tools; perform strenuous outdoor work in a variety of weather conditions.
