Potomac Valley Audubon Society (WV Eastern Panhandle, near Washington DC) has two positions to teach our fourth grade watershed education program as an AmeriCorps member in Berkeley, Jefferson, or Morgan Counties WV. Additional youth programs, such as afterschool activities, may also be part of the position as well as occasional weekend programs. During the summer months, the position will include serving as day camp staff. AmeriCorps positions are one-year commitments (August-August) and require some off-site training and additional volunteer projects. AmeriCorps members are provided a monetary stipend with a typical work week of 30-35 hours. A monetary education award for student loans or continuing education is provided at the end of the service-year. A child care stipend is available. Health care coverage and mileage reimbursement is provided. Qualifications include an interest in teaching or experience in the formal classroom, flexibility, good communication skills, punctuality, and an interest in making the world a better place. Retired teachers or new elementary education graduates are encouraged to apply. This is an excellent way to improve your teaching skills.
