Job Description:
Typical Duties Include:
- Supervising campers, volunteers and Rec Leaders I & II
- Leading hikes, finding best routes to explore nature
- Serving as a lead staff in assigned camp program
- Facilitating recreational activities according to prepared curriculum along with updating and suggesting new curriculum
- Lead activity set up, implementation, and clean-up
- Attending and assisting with mandatory training and staff meetings
- Interacting and providing information to parents/guardians of participants and the public
- Collecting and managing campers’ paperwork
- Administering first aid as required and maintaining a safe program environment
All staff will work the mandatory training week of June 4 -8, 2018 and summer camps will end August 10. A Recreation Leader III schedule will then be dependent upon the camp:
- Wittle Ridge Runners (Ages 4 – 6), work 25 hours a week, camp is from 9am – 1pm
- Ridge Runners (Ages 7 – 11), work 40 hours a week, camp is from 8:30am – 3:30pm
- Advanced Ridge (Ages 11 – 15), work 40 hours a week, camp is from 8:30am – 3:30pm
The Ideal candidate will:
- Possess at least one year of work experience supervising children in a summer camp or after school program setting
- Demonstrate an interest in outdoor and/or environmental education
- Be able to provide leadership for, and direction to, Recreation Leader I, II and Volunteers
- Be able to communicate effectively and possess excellent interpersonal skills while interacting with program participants, co-workers, supervisors, and the general public
- Must be able to climb stairs, squat and lift 40 lbs
- Must be able to work outdoors, hike up to 8 miles in a variety of terrains and conditions
- Be able to manage large groups of kids, keep them engaged throughout the day while practicing outdoor safety standards
