Job Description:

Hunting Island is South Carolina’s single most popular state park, attracting more than a million visitors a year, as well as a vast array of land and marine wildlife. Five miles of pristine South Carolina beaches, thousands of acres of marsh and maritime forest, a saltwater lagoon and ocean inlet are all part of the park’s natural allure.

Manages thematic interpretive services for 1.2 million annual visitors focusing on barrier islands, light house history and maritime ecology. Develops and manages tours, programs, curriculum based field trips, activities and develops nature center exhibits for multiple audiences.

1) Develops and manages the overall educational and interpretive services, including but not limited to programming and exhibit management.
2) Manages the front line operation of the park nature center.
3) Directs the resource management activities of the park.
4) Prepares and maintains administrative reports and records according to established procedures.
5) Manages and directs community and volunteer programs, workshops and activities in accordance with department guidelines.
6) Practice and promote teamwork within Hunting Island State Park, throughout the agency and with external agency stakeholders. Represents office as an active member on agency teams assigned throughout the year. To include, but not limited to park interpretation.
7) Performs law enforcement activities within his/her authority and department policy.
8) Performs duties relative to assisting to manage the St. Phillips Island operation. 

Salary: $40,000 per year

Full-time, 40 hours per week rotating schedule including weekends and holidays.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A Master’s degree or a Bachelor’s degree and two years experience in managing interpretive programs in a museum, interpretive center, zoo, or similar facility.
