Job Description:


Responsible for assisting the Outdoor and Environmental Coordinator organize, plan, and conduct outdoor and environmental programs and events. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Recreation Supervisor and general direction of the Outdoor and Environmental Coordinator.

¨       Assists the Outdoor and Environmental Coordinator organize, conduct, and clean up outdoor and environmental programs and events.

¨       Assists in carrying out special events and activities.

¨   Assists in maintaining records of specialized classes, attendance records, collects and receipts money for recreation activities.

¨       Assists in oversight of the use of all equipment and inventory items used in programs.

¨       Supervision of a group in uncontained, open areas.

¨       Assists in carrying out special events and activities.

¨       Administration of discipline and first aid as needed.

¨       Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

¨       Knowledge of recreational programs and special events.

¨       Knowledge of planning, organizing, and conducting recreation programs and special events.

¨       Safety skills.

¨       Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the general public.

¨       Ability to operate a PC in a network environment.

¨       Ability to use computer programs such as RecTrac, Microsoft Word and Excel.


Education and Experience:

¨       High School graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.

¨       Experience on kayaks, canoes and/or John boats.

¨       Experience in fishing, camping and/or active hiking. 

(A comparable amount of training or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)


Licenses, Certifications or Registrations: 

¨       Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.

¨       Must possess and maintain CPR and First Aid Certification.



¨       Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction).

¨       Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid).

¨       Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.

¨       Ability to lift 15-30 lbs.

¨       Walking, bending, and kneeling.

¨       Ability to access, input and retrieve information from a network PC.

¨       Ability to sit at a desk and view a display screen for extended periods of time.



¨       Works inside.

¨       Works outside in various weather conditions.

¨       Slippery and uneven surfaces.

¨       In and around moving vehicles.

Compensation Information:

Grade 22, $10.50 per hour
