The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy is a nonprofit land trust with the mission to preserve land and restore habitat for the education and enjoyment of all.
Position Type: Part time, temporary position, approx. 15 hours per week, 2-3 weekdays days per week. February – end of April.
Supervisor: Education Program Manager
Job Description: Delivery of top-notch outdoor environmental educational programs to elementary students from various schools. Teach age-appropriate ecology, cultural, and science activities to children between the ages of 6-11. Field groups range in size from ten to twenty students. Provide assistance with public programs and special event projects as needed.
Qualifications / Education / Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in environmental or outdoor education, natural history / interpretation, education, or related field.
Experience delivering environmental education or outdoor recreation programs, camps, and/or other youth program experience
Must pass a background check
Means of self-transportation during the work day as needed.
First aid / CPR / AED certification a plus
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
identify, learn and share natural and cultural history of the area
Prior experience working with students, adaptability to different teaching situations, an ability to work well with others
effectively communicate orally with groups and individuals in non-formal, and work situations
work indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
be enthusiastic for learning, working with children, while carrying out the Land Conservancy’s educational mission
withstand the physical demands of the work which involves some lifting, carrying, stooping, bending, reaching, walking, standing, sitting, and light computer use
