Job Description:

Cottonwood is 16,000 acres of state and federal property on 12 miles of the John Day River in central Oregon. The park is large in acreage and small on amenities with a 21 site primitive campground; 15 miles of trails and a small day-use area.

This Ranger will be working with a small staff (one other Ranger and one Park Manager) focused on 40% landscaping (irrigation; mowing); 30% public contact (explain rules/regulations; work with campers; provide interpretation programing); 20% facilities maintenance and cleaning; and 10% restoration (lots of hand pulling weeds).

Housing is available in small towns 20 miles away. And there may be on-site housing available.

Applicants should have professional work experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Volunteer management
  • Custodial arts--what we call bathroom cleaning
  • Landscaping
  • Land Restoration
  • Maintenance of facilities and/or vehicles

Applicants must be willing to work independently and safely in a:

  • Remote area--no cell service and 50 minutes to a full service town
  • Adverse weather conditions--stinkin' hot at 100 plus in summer months

Applicants must flexible since each hour brings a different task and willing to perform the "other duties as assigned" as needs dictate.
