Farms for City Kids is a non-profit residential educational program, located in Reading, VT, which mostly serves public schools from the inner cities of NYC and Boston. Our farm program is catered for students in grades 4th – 7th to come and spend a week exploring new dimensions of learning as academics are integrated into everyday farm activities that practice and teach sustainability. On a given day the students may give milk to a calf, learn where all their food and clothes come from, use teamwork to clean out our chicken coop, make apple cider, milk a cow, and explore our woods in the evening. Their days are full, as their eyes are opened up to a whole other way of life.
We are looking for a summer educator(s) to join us from mid May through August when we are also running our City Kids Adventure Learning program to help fill out our Farms for City Kids program. The summer farm educator will be given the opportunity to watch and participate in our farm activities before leading their own groups of 5 – 9 students in those same activities. There may also be the possibility for summer educators to lead large group (18-25) student activities in the evening.
