Nature Connection for Children Webinar from 8 Shields
Hours for Learning Activity:5 learning hours
This 3-part online training from 8 Shields is designed to give parents and teachers proven tools and strategies that will help you inspire children's exploration of the outdoors. The training is based on the popular Art of Mentoring methodology; this model has been successfully applied in settings ranging from city parks and backyard gardens to remote wilderness camp settings.
How can we help today’s "digital child" to enjoy a meaningful relationship with nature?
Module 1: Awakening the Mentor
Nature connection goes beyond words and information in a field guide... to reach all the senses, heart, and imagination.
In many primary cultures around the world, connection with nature is guided by a mentor (i.e. uncle/auntie/grandparent/older sibling, extended family member) and deepens throughout one's life.
Module 2: Build Your Own Ropes to Nature First!
Because nature connection is led by example, participants will be introduced to a set of core routines. These well-tested practices encourage well-being through increased sensory awareness and a growing comfort in nature.
Module 3: Engaging Each Child’s Full Potential with Nature-Based Activities and Play
Mentoring nature connection is an ancient art form and practice.
In this module, participants gain another layer of engaging tools to add to their growing toolkit.
Participants receive digital editions of COYOTE'S GUIDE TO CONNECTING WITH NATURE and KAMANA ONE: EXPLORING NATURE MYSTERY.
