This GS-02 Human Dimensions focused Biological Science Aid primarily assists with natural resources conservation outreach programming for Florida Panther National Wildlife Refuge, Ten Thousand Islands National Wildlife Refuge, and cooperative tasks with the non-profit Friends of the Florida Panther Refuge.
Alligator River, Pea Island, Pocosin and Mattamuskeet Internships are yearly, mid May through August. The Red Wolf Caretaker/General Internship is every 4 months. for College students and new grads.Visitor Services and maintenance duties are required along with the biological work. Duties include bird nest closure maintenance, bird surveys and banding, turtle conservation work, mowing, weeding, leading canoe tours and other public education programs. Work can be hot, buggy and strenuous.
In 2018, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) will partner with the Student Conservation Association (SCA) for the FWS Directorate Resource Assistant Fellows Program (DFP). DFP provides undergraduate rising seniors and graduate students who are interested in conservation or other related careers with a full-time, 11-week opportunity that supports FWS conservation priorities.
