Crosswalks or alignments can be used to compare frameworks and illustrate commonalities/gaps. Crosswalks are particularly useful for teachers and curriculum developers. These crosswalks align Excellence in Environmental Education: Guidelines for Learning (K-12) to the Ocean Literacy: Essential Principles of Ocean Sciences, Climate Literacy: Essential Principles of Climate Sciences, and Energy Literacy: Essential Principles and Fundamental Concepts for Energy Education.

How environmental literacy links to the core principles for ocean literacy, climate literacy, and energy literacy have been mapped in a series of crosswalks.  These crosswalks can be used by curriculum developers and others as a way of building a comprehensive and cohesive environmental literacy program:
