Belinda empowers young people with the skillsets and mindsets to pursue impact-driven careers in sustainability.

Hong Kong, Age 26

How are you using education to build more sustainable and equitable communities? Tell us about your EE work and impact.

Sustainapod inspires young people to take meaningful sustainability action and embed purpose into their future careers across any field. Across London and Hong Kong, I have developed and delivered tailored ‘Green Career’ workshops for high school and university students to explore sustainability careers and skills through career sharing, role-play, real-world scenarios, and stories from professionals in diverse fields. To date, we have reached 700+ students aged between 12–24, with 90% reporting increased awareness of sustainability careers and next steps. 60% come from disadvantaged backgrounds, reflecting our mission to make climate education and career opportunities accessible to all. The workshops are underpinned by the "Sustainable Futures Toolkit," an online resource I conceptualised and co-wrote with two young professionals, featuring insights from 100+ sustainability professionals across diverse industries on their career journeys and top skills required to succeed in their roles. Globally, 2,000+ students have used the toolkit to explore climate-related careers and pathways. SustainaPod also runs events to connect young people directly to professionals in industry, including a high-school sustainability public speaking competition and a university design-thinking-focused consultancy competition, where 260+ students have presented solutions to sustainability challenges before industry experts, building critical thinking, systems thinking, and communication skills.

Tell us about your journey to where you are today. What inspired you? What has your path been like?

Growing up in Hong Kong, I was passionate about tackling environmental challenges, but sustainability was not a conventional career pathway I understood very well. Volunteering in under-resourced communities in Guangxi and leading environmental workshops in Hong Kong and London showed me the human impact of climate change and inspired my focus on education as a pathway to climate action. After I graduated from university, I had conversations with sustainability professionals who shared their inspiring stories navigating diverse careers. I decided to record those as podcasts to share with students, which was how SustainaPod was born. Though we've now evolved beyond podcasting as an avenue for education, storytelling remains at the heart of what we do to inspire and empower. Professionally, I work as a corporate sustainability consultant at ERM, where I now advise organisations on sustainability strategy. This experience has given me a view of sustainability from both sides: what young people need to feel empowered and what it takes to work directly within industry and drive systemic change. What continues to inspire me is connecting these worlds, creating pathways into action and helping people see where their own skills and passions can contribute to a more sustainable future.

How can people learn more about or support your work?

We are currently developing a second, more comprehensive version of our online platform and toolkit, designed to give young people an integrated journey to build key skills and explore the world of green careers through storytelling, digital content, and interactive learning. We welcome sustainability professionals who would be interested in sharing their career journey through a short profile, as well as advisors with expertise in developing effective educational tools.

We are also actively seeking corporate partnerships and sponsorships to help us deliver and expand our programmes and events. Educators and institutions affiliated with schools or universities in London or Hong Kong are warmly invited to get in touch to explore opportunities to bring Sustainapod’s programmes to students.

A Little More About Me

What are you happiest doing?
Convening community by bringing together diverse people from different backgrounds. I love seeing people engage with each other with curiosity and open-mindedness, and the ideas and learning that spark from conversation.

What is your superpower? What qualities best fuel the work you do?
My superpower is storytelling. I’ve always been drawn to the power of a good story to make people care, shift perspectives, and see possibilities they hadn’t considered before. Storytelling makes sustainability topics feel personal and accessible; they create connection, spark curiosity, and give people the confidence to imagine themselves as part of the change.

How do you recharge?
Hiking in nature! I grew up hiking in one of Hong Kong's many country parks surrounded by lush forest and hills, and this is my happy place.
