Alex empowers students to explore the natural world, understand watershed health, and become stewards of their community’s natural resources.

About Alex's Community Action Project (CAP)

Alex’s Community Action Project will include a school-based stewardship program that empowers students to adopt and monitor sections of their local watershed. This project will introduce students to the critical role watersheds play in sustaining ecosystems and community health, while providing them with tools to become informed environmental stewards and advocates. This project will address several community needs, including introducing place-based environmental education in schools, developing watershed literacy, and building climate awareness and resilience at the community level.

We spent our days exploring the woods, discovering wildlife, and learning about the natural world — an experience that inspired me to become a lifelong learner of the environment and continues to shape the work I do today.

What (or who) keeps you hopeful for the future?
My community keeps me hopeful for the future. The support and inspiration I get from my friends, family, and coworkers reminds me every day that positive change is possible and worth working for.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
