About Chris' Community Action Project (CAP)
My Action Project is an art installation and interactive exhibit that teaches the past, present, and future of environmental justice in Southeast L.A., with the goal of encouraging community members to support local efforts that preserve the region’s cultural history and environmental commitment. Curated to the values of the local citizens of Compton, there will be special focus on children and young adults, to maximize the efficacy of long-term environmental stewardship.
The project is guided by three primary goals: highlighting indigenous and historical efforts of environmental justice throughout Southeast LA, documenting recent environmental stewardship in Compton, and promoting opportunities to continue community building. The initiative empowers youth to shape their community’s narrative through exhibit development workshops, incorporating existing and creating opportunities with city officials, sparking new dialogue around environmental challenges and cultural heritage. For example, artists may use recycled materials not only to showcase sustainable practices but also link creative expression with environmental responsibility.
