About Jefty's Community Action Project

Green Bridges: Connecting Cultures through Community Involvement and Environmental Action is a community project designed to help students at the English Language Institute (ELI) at the University of Florida become active leaders while caring for the environment.

The project supports students in building leadership and civic responsibility skills such as working with others, communicating effectively, and contributing positively to their community while learning how everyday actions can help protect nature. Green Bridges brings together environmental learning, cultural exchange, and hands-on community service to create meaningful and lasting impact.

Throughout the project, participants take part in interactive workshops that build confidence, teamwork, and leadership skills. They also engage in practical environmental activities such as tree planting, composting, and learning about sustainable farming practices. In addition, students participate in community clean up events that promote shared responsibility for public spaces and strengthen connections between students and residents.

By combining learning with action, Green Bridges helps students turn knowledge into practice, build cross cultural understanding, and contribute to a healthier, more connected community.

About Jefty

My name is Jeftey Saint Fleur (Jeff), and I am from Haiti. I hold a bachelor's degree in Agricultural Engineering with a focus on Natural Resources and Environment from the State University of Haiti (UEH/FAMV). My undergraduate thesis focused on cadmium uptake by cocoa trees, investigating its accumulation in soils and beans and exploring potential mitigation strategies. Currently, I am a master's student in Agronomy at the University of Florida, and my research focuses on climate-induced forest tree mortality(ecophyslab). I leverage GIS and remote sensing data to analyze ecological and physiological patterns and to develop a model capable of predicting tree mortality across scales. I also serve as the International Representative of @ClimUnity Association, which aims to empower vulnerable communities in Haiti through environmental education, sustainable agriculture, civic engagement and the use of accessible technologies: I enjoy playing and watching soccer.
