Senator Ben Allen authored the bill with support from Ten Strands. Over 165 environment and education-based entities endorsed the bill.
Funding
Six million dollars were appropriated to the San Mateo County Office of Education to contract to create the open-education resources.
Target Audience
The San Mateo County Office of Education contracted with Ten Strands to create climate and environmental justice curricular resources. The resources will be available in the public domain for non-commercial use for California educators to use and modify for their specific locality.
Impact
California continues to lead the way in the United States by allocating funding for climate change and environmental justice education for all students throughout the state. It took some time to acquire funding, but now the California Climate Change and Environmental Justice Program has been fully launched.
